UK Pledges £30,000 to Flood-Stricken Sylhet

UK Funds to Deliver Critical Supplies
The UK’s cash boost in Sylhet will be managed by Start Fund Bangladesh and rolled out by Caritas Bangladesh. The aid package offers cash support, clean drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene supplies, bolstering Bangladesh’s ongoing flood response.
More UK Funding Fuels International Relief
Beyond Sylhet, the UK is a major donor to global emergency funds like the International Federation of Red Cross’s Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF) and the UN’s Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF).
Together, these funds pour in £5.9m (BDT 89.5 crores) to help flood survivors in northern Bangladesh with essentials including food, shelter, healthcare, and hygiene supplies.
Sarah Cooke, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, said: “The UK stands beside all those affected by the current flooding. I am pleased to announce this humanitarian assistance to support those in need. Our funding will reach over 5,000 people in Sylhet and complements the Government of Bangladesh’s efforts in the north.”
