The shocking incident unfolded around 11.50pm on Wednesday night on Reedswood Lane, Birchills. Emergency services rushed to the scene after reports of a shooting and several stabbing victims.

  • One man was shot near the junction of Old Birchills and Reedswood Lane.
  • Three others suffered stab wounds.

The West Midlands Ambulance Service treated all victims at the scene. Two men – including the shooting victim – were rushed to a major trauma centre due to serious injuries. The other two were treated for non-life-threatening wounds before hospital admission.

Police Extend Stop and Search in Walsall

Following the violent spree, police announced an extension of stop and search powers across Walsall, running until 10am Saturday. The Section 60 powers allow officers to stop and search individuals without needing specific reasonable grounds.

Officers cordoned off the Reedswood Lane area while forensic teams combed the scene. Two silver tents and blue tarpaulins covered a car near the incident spot, where shots were reportedly fired at the vehicle.

Ongoing Investigation and Public Appeal

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said, “We are working to establish why this happened and we’d ask anyone with information to speak to us. Such violence is unacceptable and won’t be tolerated.”

One victim has been discharged and arrested, while three remain in hospital but are out of life-threatening danger. A 26-year-old man, caught on Thursday for wounding, has been released on bail.

Police are urging residents and witnesses to come forward with any information to help identify others involved in the attack.
