Man held over spate of rapes targeting drunk men in Manchester city centre
Major probe launched after string of attacks
Greater Manchester Police’s Major Incident Team is probing a chilling series of rapes in Manchester city centre. A 47-year-old man faces 12 charges, including multiple rapes, sexual assaults, and thefts. Cops say he preyed on intoxicated men from February to July 2024, stealing their belongings after assaulting them.
Arrest made after months-long investigation
The suspect was arrested on July 21 following an extensive police operation. Officers are working closely with We Are Survivors, the charity supporting male victims of sexual violence in the region. The collaboration aims to provide vital care and support to the survivors during this traumatic time.
“We take these incidents extremely seriously, and our priority is to bring justice to the victims. We urge anyone with further information to come forward and help with our ongoing investigation,” police said.
Charity backs victims, calls for awareness
We Are Survivors is highlighting the need to raise awareness and create safe spaces for male survivors to speak out and get help. The charity is working hand-in-hand with police to support victims throughout the legal process.
Police appeal for witnesses
Greater Manchester Police have asked anyone who saw suspicious behaviour in the city centre or has information to come forward immediately. The investigation continues, with the suspect due to appear in court soon.
