Massive Blaze Rips Through Basildon Recycling Plant
At least 12 fire crews battled a huge fire overnight at TLM Environmental, a waste recycling firm on Basildon’s Burnt Mills industrial estate. The inferno erupted shortly after 1am, rapidly engulfing warehouses and machinery.
Flames and Smoke Visible Miles Away
Firefighters were quick to call for backup, sending 10 more crews to tackle the towering flames. A massive plume of smoke filled the sky, clearly visible to drivers on the nearby A127.
The blaze raged well into the morning, with crews still fighting to contain it by 10am. Police have shut down roads around the estate as emergency teams work non-stop to control the fire.
Firefighters Make Progress but Warn of Long Battle Ahead
With daylight, firefighting efforts were scaled back to five crews, who reported progress in controlling the fire. However, they expect to be dealing with hot spots for at least the next 48 hours.
Authorities have urged locals to keep windows shut due to heavy smoke drifting in the area throughout the weekend. Motorists and residents are advised to avoid the vicinity while the situation is managed.
