Peacehaven Supermarket Drama: Residents Left in the Lurch as Morrisons Delay Kicks In

No Morrisons, No Mercy for Peacehaven Shoppers

Residents of Peacehaven are fed up. The much-hyped redevelopment of the Meridian Centre, which promised a new Morrisons supermarket, has stalled. Since February, locals have been without a supermarket in town. They’re now forced to trek to Newhaven or Brighton for groceries—public transport options are patchy at best.

Morrisons Snagged the Site but Construction Is MIA

Morrisons scooped up the site from the Co-op earlier this year, pledging a modern town centre packed with shops and supermarket convenience. But months have slipped by with no sign of construction activity.

A Morrisons spokesperson told Sussex News Today: “The development has taken a number of years to come forward. Due to rising construction costs and changes in market demand, we’re working on revising the proposal to better suit our customers and ensure a viable town centre for Peacehaven.”

No Free Bus, No Back-Up Plan

Despite council asks, Morrisons has kept quiet on running a free shuttle service to nearby stores like Seaford, Eastbourne, or Brighton while the Centre sits idle. The council suggested a temporary bus to ease the grocery gap, but the supermarket giant has yet to respond.

Residents Demand Answers as Isolation Grows

With no timeline in sight, residents feel cut off—especially those without cars. Current public transport lacks direct routes to the closest big shops, leaving many stuck. Calls for clearer plans and quick fixes are echoing across the town.
