Dartford Crossing Twists and Turns: Overnight Closures Hit Last Weekend of October
Get ready, drivers! The Dartford Crossing is set for a weekend of disruptions as overnight maintenance closes key tunnels and slip roads. Expect detours and delays as work carries on until Monday, October 29.
Which Roads Are Shutting and When?
- Friday 26 Oct – Saturday 27 Oct: The A282 anticlockwise entry slip at Junction 1A shuts down, along with the stretch from Jct 1A to the M25 anticlockwise Jct 31. Plus, the West Tunnel is closed from 11pm to 6am for grillage repairs.
- Saturday 27 Oct – Sunday 28 Oct: Northbound West Tunnel closes from 10pm to 5am. Traffic will be rerouted via National Highways’ alternative routes.
- Sunday 28 Oct – Monday 29 Oct: Northbound East Tunnel shuts from 10pm to 5am. Diversions remain in place as maintenance wraps up.
Why the Hassle?
The Dartford Crossing is a vital artery connecting Kent to Essex over the Thames via the A282. Maintenance is essential to keep it safe and running smoothly — but it comes at the cost of weekend headaches for thousands of commuters.
Plan Ahead or Brace for Delays
Keep an eye on weather conditions and live updates from National Highways before setting off. Conditions can change fast, and staying informed is your best bet to dodge gridlock.
