Tributes Paid to Former Isle of Wight Firefighter Roe Sprack After His Passing

The Isle of Wight community is mourning the loss of former Ryde Crew Manager Roe Sprack, who passed away last week. Known for his unwavering dedication and passion for firefighting, Roe left a profound impact on those who served alongside him and on the residents he helped protect.

Roe’s former colleague, Damon Corr, paid a heartfelt tribute, recalling their early days in the service. He shared memories of their gentleman’s agreement to alternate duties, a bond built on trust and mutual respect as newly qualified BA wearers. “No matter what a belter of a shout came in, whichever of us was in first would stand down for the other when it was their turn, without exception,” Corr recalled.

Describing Roe as “energetic, eccentric, loyal, and full of unique quirks,” Corr remembered his friend as someone who embodied the true spirit of service, always proud and keen to serve his community. Roe’s commitment saved countless lives and properties around Ryde, where his attitude of self-sacrifice and courage made a lasting difference.

“He was as proud and as keen to serve as a firefighter as anyone I’ve ever met,” Corr said, reflecting on the good times and the positive memories that helped ease the pain of his friend’s premature passing. “There are people in and around Ryde today that had their property and, in some cases, their lives saved by this man’s attitude to self-sacrifice and service.”

The firefighting community and those who knew Roe are left with cherished memories of a man whose dedication and bravery will not be forgotten. Rest in peace, Roe Sprack.
