French Bulldog Pic Smashes £45m Drug Gang
An organised crime ring has been smashed wide open – all thanks to a photo of a French Bulldog. Danny Brown, 57, from Kings Hall Road, was slammed with a 26-year prison sentence after cops cracked the gang’s multi-million-pound drug smuggling operation, using clues hidden in the dog’s collar tag.
The Paw Print That Broke the Case
The gang thought their encrypted messages on EncroChat were untouchable. But Brown’s snap of his French Bulldog, Bob, revealed a phone number on the dog’s collar tag. This tiny detail gave investigators the lead they needed to tie Brown to the encrypted chats.
The breakthrough came during Operation Venetic, a huge National Crime Agency (NCA) probe into the now-shuttered EncroChat network, heavily favoured by organised crime gangs nationwide.
£45 Million Amphetamine Plot Exposed
The gang planned to smuggle 448kg of amphetamine stuffed inside the arm of an excavator to mates Down Under in Australia. Had it gone ahead, the haul would have hit the streets with a staggering street value of £45 million.
The NCA intercepted gang messages discussing everything from hiding spots to transport logistics. The evidence gleaned from EncroChat was vital to securing the convictions.
Heavy Sentences for Crime Bosses
Danny Brown, labelled the gang’s ringleader, copped a hefty 26-year sentence. Several other members also landed prison time thanks to the investigation.
Operation Venetic: Law Enforcement’s Big Win
This bust is part of Operation Venetic, an international crackdown on crime groups using EncroChat. The messaging platform was infiltrated by law enforcement in 2020, sparking a global wave of arrests and convictions.
NCA Statement: Small Details Bring Big Justice
“This case highlights the level of sophistication employed by organised crime groups and the equally determined efforts of law enforcement to dismantle their operations. The breakthrough with the French Bulldog photo demonstrates how even the smallest details can unravel criminal networks.”
Drug Millions Off Our Streets
Thanks to this operation, millions worth of drugs have been stopped from flooding UK streets. Authorities are still using Operation Venetic’s intelligence to chase down more criminals and shut down drug rings for good.
