Train services were disrupted this evening following a police response to an “incident” at New Hythe railway station, leading to temporary closures and delays along the Medway Valley Line.

Southeastern was forced to suspend all services between Strood and Maidstone West from 6.40pm after police were called to the scene. The nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed by authorities.

The affected stretch of the line was reopened at approximately 7.15pm, but Southeastern has warned passengers to expect continued delays and possible cancellations as services recover. Disruptions are expected to last until around 8.30pm.

In a statement, Southeastern said:

“Lines have now reopened following the police dealing with an incident at New Hythe. However, whilst service recovers, trains running between Strood and Maidstone West may be cancelled or revised.”

Commuters traveling on the Medway Valley Line are advised to check for real-time updates before continuing their journeys.

We have reached out to British Transport Police  for more details regarding the incident. It is currently unclear whether there were any injuries or if there is an ongoing investigation.
