Radiation scare in Dartford sparks emergency response in the early hours

Man falls ill, triggers radiation alert

Kent Police were called out at 2:30am on Tuesday 24 April after South East Coast Ambulance Service reported a medical emergency in Blake Gardens, Dartford. Officers rushed to the scene to assist paramedics and Kent Fire and Rescue Service.

Fire crews in gas-tight suits sweep property

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to Blake Gardens in Dartford to test for a possible radiation leak after a man became ill. He was taken to hospital by SECAmb paramedics.

Four fire engines and a hazardous materials unit arrived at the scene. Firefighters decked out in gas-tight suits conducted thorough radiation checks throughout the property.

No radiation found – public safety assured

No sources of radiation were identified, and officials confirmed there is no risk to the public.

Kent Police also remained at the scene during the investigation.
