Emergency Services Respond to Serious Multi-Vehicle Crash on A249 Near Maidstone

Emergency services are responding to a serious three-vehicle collision on the A249 Northbound near the M20 roundabout at Detling, Maidstone, this evening (Tuesday, 25 February 2025).

The incident, reported at around 10:12pm, has led to significant disruption in the area, with both the northbound and southbound sections of the A249 currently closed to traffic.

Emergency Response

Two fire engines from Kent Fire and Rescue Service were dispatched to the scene, along with Kent Police and paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb).

Fire crews are using hydraulic rescue equipment—including jaws of life, hydraulic spreaders, rams, and cutting tools—to safely extricate individuals trapped inside one of the vehicles.

A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue Service stated:
“Our crews are working hard alongside partner agencies to safely access a vehicle involved in the collision. We urge drivers to avoid the A249 in both directions and seek alternative routes as the road remains closed.”

Traffic Disruption

The closure of both directions of the A249 has resulted in heavy traffic and significant delays. Motorists are being advised to avoid the area and follow diversion routes until further notice.

Kent Police have confirmed that traffic management is in place, but congestion is expected to continue through the late evening.

Appeal to the Public

Residents and drivers are encouraged to share this information with anyone who may be traveling in the area, especially those without access to real-time traffic updates or the internet.

“If you know anyone who may be driving near Maidstone tonight, please let them know about the road closures to help ease congestion and ensure safety,” a fire service spokesperson added.

Injuries and Casualties

No official information has yet been released regarding injuries or casualties, but SECAmb paramedics are on the scene providing medical assistance to those involved. Further updates on the condition of the individuals will be provided as they become available.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service and local authorities will continue to provide updates as the situation develops. Drivers are advised to check local traffic reports and official social media channels before traveling in the area.
