Elderly Man Mauled in Shocking XL Bully Dog Attack in Warrington

Brutal Attack on 84-Year-Old

An 84-year-old pensioner suffered serious injuries after being viciously attacked by a suspected XL Bully dog on Bardsley Avenue, Warrington, Cheshire. The terrifying incident unfolded around 6:40pm on Monday when the elderly man was walking past a garden and was suddenly set upon by the large dog that had escaped from a nearby property.

Armed Police Open Fire to End Threat

Emergency services responded swiftly, including armed officers who arrived at the scene to tackle the dangerous situation. A total of 19 shots were fired, all hitting their mark, to stop the aggressive dogs and protect public safety.

  • The attacking XL Bully was shot dead outside the property.
  • A second suspected XL Bully inside the house was also destroyed by officers.
  • A smaller third dog was seized for evidence.

The injured man was rushed to Aintree Hospital in Liverpool where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

Arrests Made as Police Hunt Suspects

A 29-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of owning a dangerously out-of-control dog that caused serious injury. Meanwhile, officers are searching for a 40-year-old man connected to the attack. Police are continuing their investigation as they piece together the chilling events.

Chief Constable Issues Stark Warning on XL Bullies

Chief Constable Mark Roberts condemned the attack as “horrific,” describing the elderly victim as simply walking down the street when “he was brutally mauled.” He compared the dogs to loaded firearms with faulty safety catches due to their size and ferocity.

“The sheer size and ferocity of these animals meant our firearms officers had to discharge 19 shots in order to bring the incident to a conclusion and ensure public safety,” Roberts said.

He revealed that Cheshire Police have removed over 100 XL Bullies from the county in efforts to prevent more dangerous attacks.

Public Urged to Follow New Dog Laws

This horrific attack comes amid rising concerns over XL Bullies and other aggressive breeds. Recent legal restrictions on ownership and breeding aim to clamp down on such threats.

Authorities warn dog owners to comply with legislation while police press on with the ongoing investigation. More updates are expected as officers continue the search for the second suspect involved in this disturbing case.
