Police Given Tough New Powers in Lambeth to Tackle Violence

The Metropolitan Police have launched a tough new measure in Lambeth, rolling out a Section 60 stop and search order from 11am on March 5 until 5am on March 6. The move comes amid escalating concerns over serious violence in the borough.

What is Section 60? The Power to Stop Without Suspicion

Section 60 grants police the power to stop and search anyone without needing suspicion. It’s a heavy-handed tool used during spikes in violent crime or when police fear further disorder.

Superintendent Gabriel Cameron authorised the temporary order after recent violent incidents in Lambeth, aiming to curb the threat before it escalates.
