Child Battles for Life After Horrific Bus Crash on Lime E-Bike in Southeast London

A child is fighting for life following a serious collision with a bus while riding a Lime e-bike in Southeast London.

Critical Crash Shuts Down Surrey Quays Road

The smash happened around 5:35pm on Surrey Quays Road near Canada Water, sparking a major emergency response. Police officers on patrol stumbled upon the scene and immediately called for backup. Paramedics and London’s Air Ambulance rushed to the spot.

The child, age still unknown, was treated at the scene before being rushed to a major trauma centre in critical condition. Police confirmed the family have been informed.

Emergency Services Speak Out

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 5.36pm on 11 March to reports of a road traffic collision in Maritime Street, Southwark.

“We sent ambulances, paramedics in fast response cars, an incident response officer, and London’s Air Ambulance. We treated a child at the scene and took them to a major trauma centre as a priority.”

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson added:

“At about 17:35hrs on Tuesday, 11 March, officers on patrol came upon a bus colliding with a cyclist on Surrey Quays Road. The cyclist, a child, was taken to hospital in critical condition. The family have been informed. Road closures are in place.”

Crash Investigation Underway, Road Closures Cause Chaos

The Met Police’s Commercial Vehicle Unit is leading a serious collision investigation.

Witnesses reported a heavy police presence with Surrey Quays Road sealed off near Canada Street for several hours. The closure caused chaos with major traffic disruption and bus diversions across the area.

A local resident told UKNIP: “It was absolutely horrifying. Emergency crews were working desperately to help the child. The road was shut down very quickly—you could tell something very serious had happened.”

Bus Driver Shaken, Police Seek Witnesses

The bus driver, a woman, was spoken to at the scene and is said to be badly shaken. No arrests have been made so far.

Police are urging anyone with dashcam footage or eyewitness details to come forward.
