Sara Sharif’s killers fail in bid to slash life sentences

Appeal Court rejects prison term cuts

Sara Sharif’s father, Urfan Sharif, and stepmother, Beinash Batool, have lost their appeals to reduce hefty prison sentences for the 10-year-old’s horrific murder. Both remain locked up with life sentences handed down last December — Urfan gets a minimum of 40 years, Batool 33. Sara’s uncle, Faisal Malik, who was convicted of allowing her death, also saw his 16-year sentence stand firm.

Gruesome details from court revealed

The tragic case stunned the nation when Sara’s lifeless body was found in her Woking home, Surrey, in August 2023. Court evidence exposed the horrific abuse the young girl suffered over months — 71 injuries including broken bones, burns, and human bite marks.

“Sara endured a regime of terror, with assaults using a cricket bat, metal pole, and iron,” prosecutors said.

No whole-life term for Urfan Sharif

While the Court of Appeal dismissed all appeals, it ruled Urfan Sharif should not be given a whole-life tariff. Lady Chief Justice Baroness Carr called the crime “truly awful” but stressed whole-life sentences are reserved for the worst of the worst and backed the original sentencing judge’s decision.

Justice for Sara stands strong

The court’s ruling ensures the notorious trio remain behind bars for decades, delivering some closure to a harrowing chapter in UK crime.
