Bus Driver Accused of Being High During Fatal Crash That Killed Nine-Year-Old Ada Bicakci Appears in Court

A bus driver accused of being under the influence of drugs when he hit and killed nine-year-old Ada Bicakci has appeared in court.

Martin Asolo-Agogua, 23, from Nunhead, faced Bromley Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday, 25 March), charged with causing death by dangerous driving, causing death by careless driving while under the influence of drink or drugs, and driving over the legal drug limit.

The charges relate to a tragic crash on 3 August 2024 in Watling Street, Bexleyheath, where Ada and her five-year-old brother were struck by a bus shortly after 9:05am. The siblings, who were with a family member at the time, were rushed to hospital. Ada tragically died two days later from her injuries.

Asolo-Agogua was arrested on the day of the incident and initially questioned on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving and drug-driving. He was behind the wheel of the bus involved in the collision.

Court Appearance and Next Steps

The defendant did not enter any pleas during the brief hearing and kept his face covered as he left the court wearing a hood and mask. His case has been sent to the Old Bailey, with the next hearing due next month.

Remembering Ada

Ada Bicakci, described by her family as a keen gymnast and swimmer, held both Turkish and British citizenship. Her family made the courageous decision to donate her organs, which went on to help six other children.

A GoFundMe page, created by the Bicakci family, has raised funds to support those involved in Ada’s care—particularly the emergency services and hospital staff. The emotional tribute reads:

“We have been hit and shattered into pieces, One became six, living in new places.
Thanks are not enough to show our gratitude. We’ll honor Ada with acts of magnitude.”

The page has received widespread support and reflects the heartbreak shared by the local community.

Community Tributes

The scene of the crash became a memorial, with flowers, cards, and handwritten messages left by mourners. One tribute read:

“RIP little princess, fly with the angels. Gone too soon. Thinking of you all at this emotional time.”

Another said:

“Rest in Peace forever young princess. Sleep with the angels.”
