Tragic Blaze Claims Life of 90-Year-Old Woman in Plumstead

A 90-year-old woman has died following a house fire in Plumstead, South East London, in the early hours of Monday morning. Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the scene on Nithdale Road at around 1:53am on April 14 after reports of a residential fire.

Emergency Services Battled the Flames

The elderly woman was pulled from the burning property and taken to hospital but sadly passed away. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said:

Police were called to a report of a fire at an address in Nithdale Road, Plumstead at around 01:53hrs on Monday, 14 April. Emergency services attended and a 90-year-old woman was taken to hospital, where she sadly died.”

The London Fire Brigade and police have launched a joint investigation to uncover the cause of the blaze. Forensics teams remain on site, and the property is still cordoned off. Authorities have increased their presence in the area as inquiries continue.

Community in Shock

Local residents are devastated by the tragic news. One neighbour described the victim as a “quiet and kind lady” and called the incident “heartbreaking.” The victim’s identity has not been released while next of kin are being informed.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson added:

“We were called at 1.50am today (14 April) to reports of a fire on Nithdale Road, SE18. We sent multiple resources, including ambulance crews, paramedics, hazardous area teams, and a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance. Despite our best efforts, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.”
