Former Ambulance Technician Sentenced to 25 Years for Child Sex Offences

A former ambulance technician has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to a series of child sex offences, including attempted rape and the possession of thousands of indecent images.

David Andrews, 36, of no fixed abode and formerly of Wellesbourne, Warwickshire, appeared at Worcester Crown Court today (16 April), where he was handed a 25-year sentence, with a minimum custodial term of 12 years before being eligible for parole.

Andrews had previously pleaded guilty at the same court on 27 February to the following offences:

  • Attempted rape of a child under 13
  • Two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13 by penetration
  • Two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13
  • Three counts of taking indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of a child
  • Three counts of making indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of a child

In addition to the prison sentence, Andrews has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

The former East Midlands Ambulance Service employee was arrested in December 2024, following an allegation of sexual assault against a child. A subsequent investigation by West Mercia Police uncovered disturbing video footage and over 7,000 indecent images stored on his mobile phone.

Among the images recovered were:

  • 765 category A images — the most serious in nature
  • 829 category B images
  • 5,388 category C images

One of the category C images was confirmed to have been taken while Andrews was on duty as an ambulance technician.

He worked in the Northamptonshire area between July 2015 and December 2024.

West Mercia Police have described the crimes as “deeply disturbing” and praised the efforts of their investigation team, who worked swiftly to bring Andrews to justice.

Authorities are urging anyone who may have information about similar offences to come forward and report them.
