Jet2 Flight Diverts Mid-Air to Remove Rowdy Passengers, Sparking Three-Hour Delay – UKNIP

Passengers aboard a Jet2 flight heading from Alicante to Manchester Airport faced unexpected disruption on Friday after rowdy behaviour forced an emergency diversion to Barcelona.

Flight LS881 was about halfway through its scheduled journey when pilots made the decision to land early due to “disruptive passengers.” Police boarded the plane at Barcelona-El Prat Airport to remove those involved.

A spokesperson for Jet2 said:
“Flight LS881 diverted to Barcelona so that police could offload some disruptive passengers. The aircraft continued to its destination after a delay. As a family-friendly airline, we take a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive behaviour.”

Following the unscheduled stop, the plane eventually continued on to Manchester, touching down approximately three hours later than planned.

The incident is the latest in a series of disruptions to affect Jet2 flights. It comes just hours after another flight operated by the airline, LS676 from Tenerife to the UK, was forced to divert after a passenger suffered a fatal medical emergency onboard.

Crew on that service made an emergency landing at Santiago-Rosalía de Castro Airport, but despite rapid medical intervention, the passenger was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival.

Passengers on Friday’s diverted flight expressed frustration over the delay but praised the crew’s professionalism in handling the situation. One traveller posted on social media: “Massive respect to the crew for keeping calm — just a shame a few idiots caused chaos for everyone else.”

Jet2 has reiterated its commitment to maintaining safe and family-friendly flights, warning that disruptive passengers will continue to face strict consequences, including police involvement, fines, and potential lifetime bans from the airline.
