Asda Hero Buys Struggling Shopper’s Pizza and Garlic Bread
A touching act of kindness at Asda Crawley has gone viral after staff member Billie-Jean paid for a customer’s missing groceries.
Customer Short on Cash Faces Tough Choice
The shopper was picking items from Asda’s Essentials range when she reached the self-scan checkout only to realise she didn’t have enough money. Tearfully, she asked staff to remove her pizza and garlic bread to afford the rest.
Billie-Jean’s Heartwarming Gesture
Instead of just removing the items, Billie-Jean stepped in and paid for the missing goods herself by tapping her own card. The customer was moved to tears by the unexpected kindness.
“It was early in the morning and the lady had just a few groceries. She realised she didn’t have enough cash and asked me to take off the pizza and garlic bread. I did — but then I tapped my own card and paid for them. The lady started crying and said no one had ever done anything like that to help her before,” said Billie-Jean modestly.
The devoted colleague, who has worked at Asda Crawley for nine years, added: “I didn’t want to think that someone’s children or grandchildren would be going without food.”
Local Hero Gets Well Deserved Praise
Store Manager Mij praised Billie-Jean’s compassion and has nominated her for an Asda Service Superstar Award.
“Billie-Jean not only consistently goes above and beyond to ensure our customers are satisfied, but her dedication has made a significant difference to our customers’ everyday experiences. Thank you Billie-Jean for looking after our customers and everything you do,” Mij said.
The story has touched hearts throughout the community, with many calling Billie-Jean an inspiration in these tough times.
