Body found in Hampshire in hunt for missing Ilford woman Yajaira Castro Mendez
Heartbreaking Discovery in Hampshire Search
Detectives probing the disappearance of Yajaira Castro Mendez have confirmed a body was found during searches in Hampshire. Yajaira, who vanished from Ilford last week, remains formally unidentified but her family has been notified and is receiving specialist support.
The grim discovery happened on Saturday, 7 June, in the Bolderwood area of Hampshire amid a murder investigation. A post-mortem will reveal the cause of death.
Detective Inspector Jay Gregory said: “This is a very sad development in the investigation and our thoughts are with Yajaira’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. We urge anyone with information to come forward.”
Murder Charge Follows Disappearance
Yajaira, 46, originally from Colombia, was last seen on the morning of Thursday, 29 May and reported missing two days later. Following exhaustive enquiries, a murder investigation was launched on 5 June.
A man known to Yajaira was charged with her murder and appeared in court on 6 June. He has been remanded in custody.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
The Metropolitan Police continue to urge anyone who saw Yajaira around her last-known whereabouts or noticed any suspicious activity in Ilford or Hampshire to get in touch.
