Sheppey Speedster Jailed After Shocking Stunt Videos Found in Fatal Crash Probe
Death Crash Investigation Uncovers Reckless Driving Footage
George Ivers, 22, from Minster-on-Sea, has been locked up for 15 months after police discovered dangerous driving videos on his phone while investigating a fatal crash on the Isle of Sheppey. The footage, showing him performing wild stunts and speeding through Sheerness, was unearthed during enquiries into the tragic death of a 19-year-old cyclist in Teynham.
Cyclist Killed in Horrific Collision
The fatal crash happened in the early hours of 2 May 2022 on Lower Road, Teynham. The young local man suffered catastrophic injuries and died at the scene. Though Ivers was not directly charged with causing the crash, police linked him to the collision through forensic evidence and vehicle identification.
He tried to cover his tracks by ditching the damaged VW Polo allegedly involved and removing registration documents. Kent Police cracked the case thanks to their detailed investigation.
Doughnuts and Dangerous Speeding Caught on Camera
Officers found videos dating back to late 2021 and early 2022 showing Ivers doing reckless doughnut manoeuvres and racing through Sheerness town centre. The footage painted a picture of a driver who flaunted road safety, leading to multiple new charges.
Jail Time, Driving Ban, and Vehicle Seizure
- Ivers pleaded guilty to two counts of dangerous driving linked to the videos.
- He also admitted to perverting the course of justice over the fatal crash investigation.
The court sentenced him to 15 months behind bars and slapped on a three-year driving ban. A deprivation order allows police to confiscate the VW Polo used in the crash.
Police Issue Stark Warning to Reckless Drivers
Sergeant Christopher Oliver-Jones, Kent Police: “Ivers repeatedly tried to mislead police and stop us from getting the evidence needed to fully probe the fatal collision. The footage shows he had a blatant disregard for road safety.”
“We will continue seeking court orders to remove vehicles driven recklessly. I urge all drivers to take responsibility and help us prevent more tragedies on our roads.”
