Camper Van Blaze on Creephedge Lane Blazed Out After Daring Firefight
A camper van and nearby storage containers went up in flames early this morning on Creephedge Lane, between East Hanningfield and Woodham Ferrers. Fire crews from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service scrambled to the scene at 8:22am, rushing fire engines from 1 (two crews), Maldon, and Rayleigh Weir.
High-Tech Gear and Quick Thinking Stop Fire in Its Tracks
An Aerial Ladder Platform from Southend was deployed to rip off roof panels and douse lingering hotspots. Station Manager John Warmann praised the crew’s speedy and savvy actions:
“Crews did a great job of stopping the fire from spreading, removing cylinders to prevent the incident escalating and protecting surrounding risks.”
Despite their efforts, the camper van was destroyed, but John added:
“Crews did a fantastic job of limiting damage to vehicles and other contents in the containers.”
Firefighters established a steady water supply and stayed on site until just after 1pm to ensure the blaze was fully out.
Electrical Fault Suspected as Cause
Initial investigations point to an electrical fault in the camper van as the likely cause of the fire. The van was parked right next to the storage units when the flames broke out.
Luckily, no one was injured, and Essex Fire and Rescue confirmed surrounding properties were successfully shielded from damage.
