Car Crashes into Basingstoke Home, Family Rescued in Rush Hour Drama
A Basingstoke family faced a terrifying morning after a car smashed into their house during the busy rush hour.
Renault Clio Ploughs Through Front Door
At around 7:55am, a Renault Clio careered into a home on Belle Vue Road, crashing straight through the front door and into the hallway. The driver, believed to be a 60-year-old man, is thought to have suffered a medical episode that caused him to lose control.
Firefighters Rescue Family and Driver
Fire crews from Basingstoke and Hartley Wintney rushed to the scene. They helped a middle-aged mum and her young son escape the house by climbing out of a window using a ladder. Meanwhile, two fire teams worked to free the trapped driver from the wrecked vehicle.
A South Central Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We believe the motorist had some sort of medical event which led to him veering off the road.
Driver Taken to Hospital, Family Unharmed
The driver was taken to Basingstoke Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Fortunately, the homeowners escaped without injury despite the shock of the crash. Road closures remain in place on Belle Vue Road between Cavalier Road and Fairthorne Rise while emergency services clear the scene.
