Owners ‘Devastated’ After Two Horses Killed in Shocking Surrey Road Crash

Two horses were tragically killed in a car collision on Westwood Lane, Normandy, early Sunday morning (26 November 2017). Emergency services rushed to the scene after the shocking smash that left the community reeling.

The crash happened around 9am when a single vehicle struck two horses. One collapsed and died immediately on Westwood Lane, while the second bolted and later died on nearby Flexford Road. Despite the horror, the riders – a woman in her 50s and a teenage girl – escaped with only minor injuries. The woman was checked out in hospital as a precaution.

Road Closed as Police Investigate Incident Near Parwood Equestrian Centre

Officers from Surrey Roads Police quickly closed the junction of Westwood Lane and Flexford Road to clear the scene and ensure safety. The horses were put down on-site by a vet due to the severity of their injuries. The riders were believed to be heading to the Parwood Equestrian Centre Autumn Dressage event when the tragedy struck.

Owners Grief-Stricken as Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward

The horse owners were seen being comforted by friends, overwhelmed by the loss of their animals. Surrey Police confirmed the driver was not arrested and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

“We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to contact us,” Surrey Police stated. “Please call 101 quoting reference P17297605.”

The road has since reopened after being closed for several hours. The crash has sent shockwaves through the local equestrian community, leaving owners and riders devastated.
