Van Blaze on M25 Sparks Massive Traffic Chaos
Van Catches Fire, Road Surface Damaged
A van went up in flames shortly before 4pm today between junctions 5 and 6 on the M25. The fire damaged the carriageway surface, causing serious disruption. Around 9 miles of traffic is now stuck in tailbacks.
Traffic Jams and Diversions
Vehicles are being diverted onto the M26 as trapped drivers face delays of 40 to 60 minutes. Where possible, stuck vehicles are being turned around to ease congestion.
Fire Crews Rush to Scene
Kent Fire and Rescue sent two fire engines to tackle the blaze. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. Thankfully, no casualties have been reported.
Emergency Services Respond Quickly
Kent Police were called at 3:41pm on Tuesday, 1 September 2020, alerting them to the van fire near Clacket Lane services. Emergency teams remain on site managing the situation and clearing the road.
