Worcester Paramedic Takes on Gritty Movember Challenge to Tackle Male Suicide
84km a Week for 84 Lives
Kieran Hennah, a paramedic from Worcester, isn’t just growing a moustache for Movember. He and two mates, Ed Jones and Neil Navarra, are pounding the pavement, cycling, and rowing a daunting 84km each week throughout November. Why 84? Because that’s the number of men who tragically take their own lives every single week in the UK.
Fighting Demons with Feet and Friends
This cause hits home for Kieran, 31, originally from Swansea. After hitting rock bottom in late 2017, Kieran faced his mental health battles head-on. “I’d lost interest in everything and wasn’t myself,” he revealed. “My friends and family saw I was struggling and stepped in. The support from work was great too. I left my job in 2018 to focus on my mental wellbeing.”
After some recovery, he returned to help during the pandemic in March, proving his commitment to those in need.
Turning Struggle into Strength
“We can’t just sit back and accept 84 men dying every week,” said Kieran. “That’s why we’re raising funds for Movember to reduce male suicides by 25% by 2030. If we can encourage more men to look after their mental health and be brave enough to ask for help, that’s a start.”
Kieran’s message is clear: “I was in that dark place, but I asked for help and got through it. No man should suffer in silence. You really are not alone.”
