Burglar Begs on Streets Then Gets Banged Up
Rebecca Connelly, 29, has been locked up for a year after ignoring a court order banning her from begging and burgling homes. The homeless mum-of-none defied a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) slapped on her in 2019 and kept causing trouble in Fareham and Gosport.
Begging Ban? She Broke It Within Hours
- Connelly was banned from certain parts of Fareham town centre and told not to beg for cash.
- On 12 November, she was spotted begging in Gosport’s Victoria Street—breaking her CBO.
- Later the same day, she broke into a house nearby and swiped £260 in cash.
Portsmouth Crown Court Gives Her a Slap on the Wrist
At Portsmouth Crown Court on 10 December, Connelly owned up to the offences.
She was jailed for 10 months for burglary plus two months for breaching her CBO, to be served back-to-back.
Cops Warn Against Ignoring Court Orders
“Rebecca Connelly is a persistent beggar in the Fareham and Gosport areas,” said Gosport Inspector Matt Wake. “While we sympathise with people’s circumstances, this behaviour affects locals and can lead to more crime.
“CBOs are there to stop this kind of anti-social behaviour, but some just ignore the law and keep offending.
“If you’re affected by this or any other criminal behaviour, report it so we can act.”
