Kent Police are cracking down on rogue roofers targeting homes across Sittingbourne, Faversham, New Romney, Gravesend, and Chatham. Victims were cold-called and told they urgently needed pricey roof and chimney repairs – but the bills were way over the top and the work shoddy at best.
Rogue Traders Ripping Off Vulnerable Victims
The dodgy dealers reportedly hit homes between January and April 2021. They pressured homeowners into costly repairs, charging far more than the jobs were worth. Where work was done, it was often substandard, leaving customers out of pocket and roofs still in a state.
Arrest Made in Fraud Investigation
On 8 April, Tony Saunders, 22, from Spade Lane, Hartlip, Sittingbourne, was arrested in connection with the scam. He was detained again on 3 June and slapped with six counts of fraud by false representation. Saunders is now behind bars, remanded to appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court on 4 June.
Kent Police are urging anyone with information about similar doorstep scams to come forward and help bring these fraudulent traders to justice.
