Hero Cops Save Girl After Brutal Family Attack
Seven-year-old Noura had a special day out with The Duke of Cambridge to mark Emergency Services Day – an annual event thanking our emergency heroes and NHS staff.
Life-Saving Officers Reunite With Girl They Rescued
Noura got to meet PC Ryan Legge and PC Ahmet Mavitunali, the two North West Command officers who saved her life after her father viciously attacked her at their Brent home in May 2020.
The officers were called after a welfare concern was raised. A photo showing Noura and her dad with serious injuries was sent electronically to her family in Austria. Unable to confirm the exact address, police rushed to a block of flats on Larch Road.
- They forced entry into several flats before finding Noura and her father.
- Noura had deep stab wounds to her neck and chest.
- The officers gave emergency first aid on the spot while paramedics treated her father.
Thanks to their quick actions, Noura survived. She spent three months in hospital recovering and has since made a full recovery despite initial fears of brain damage.
A Stylish Police Escort and Emotional Reunion
Noura was unconscious during the attack and had never met her rescuers face-to-face. At the event, the officers picked her up from school in a police car, giving her a VIP ride to meet them for the first time. The reunion was a moving moment for all involved.
“I am immensely proud of Ahmet and Ryan,” said North West BCU Commander Sara Leach. “Their quick thinking helped save Noura in this shocking case. This violent assault on a child by someone meant to protect her is heartbreaking. All should be commended for their bravery and resilience.”
Justice Served
Noura’s father was also found with self-inflicted stab wounds and taken to hospital. After recovering, he was arrested, charged with attempted murder, and jailed for 22 years.
Noura’s story is a powerful reminder of the bravery and dedication of our emergency services every single day.
