Man Arrested in Essex Terror Probe
A man was arrested in Harwich in the early hours of Tuesday, 30 November, under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984. He is suspected of preparing or instigating terrorist acts, in breach of section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.
Police Search Ongoing as Man Held in Custody
Officers, backed by Essex Police, continue to search the property linked to the suspect. The man remains in custody at an Essex police station while investigations unfold.
Linked to Far-Right Terrorism, No Imminent Threat to Public
The arrest is connected to suspected extreme right-wing terrorism. Authorities say there is no immediate danger to the public. Importantly, this arrest is not related to the murder of Sir David Amess MP.
Commander Richard Smith, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said: “I’d like to reassure the people of Essex and beyond that we’re not aware of any imminent threat linked to this arrest.” “With the terrorism threat level now ‘severe’, I urge the public to stay alert. If you see or hear anything suspicious, report it immediately.” “Our officers work round the clock to keep you safe. Your vigilance and reports are vital in stopping those who seek to harm us.”
Stay Alert: Report Suspicious Activity
Every year, thousands of public reports help police prevent terrorist threats. If you notice anything suspicious, tell the authorities confidentially via 0800 789 321 or online at www.gov.uk/ACT.
