Police Crackdown on Anti-Social Driving in Greenhithe and Bluewater
Police are gearing up for a major clampdown on rogue drivers wreaking havoc in Greenhithe and Bluewater this weekend. From Friday, June 10 to Sunday, June 12, officers will target those using vehicles to cause anti-social behaviour.
A tough section 34 dispersal order will be in place to stop large groups gathering, aiming to nip trouble in the bud before it starts.
Targeting the minority, protecting the community
“We constantly work hard to tackle anti-social behaviour, which is often caused by a minority but can impact the entire community,” said Inspector Trevor Jenner of Kent Police’s Community Safety Unit.
“Our goal this weekend is clear: no anti-social antics, no disruption to locals, workers or visitors.”
Police warned that noisy, reckless driving will not be tolerated. Vehicles could even be seized if drivers break the rules.
Meet PCSO Butterworth – The Veteran Helping Veterans
Apart from crime-fighting, PCSO Adrian Butterworth is a hero to local veterans. A former Royal Artillery soldier with nine years’ service, he acts as Kent Police’s armed forces champion.
Adrian helps vets in several ways.
- He links up with local veterans through events like coffee mornings organised by Age Concern in Margate.
- He raises awareness about scams targeting the elderly.
- He actively participates in Armed Forces Day and Remembrance Sunday activities in Thanet.
- Last year, he led volunteers to clean the War Memorial in Margate ahead of Armistice Day.
“I had no idea I was up for an award—it was a complete surprise,” said PCSO Butterworth, who also supports veterans struggling with PTSD, mental health, housing, or jobs.
“Any calls we receive about former service members are flagged to me. I reach out for a cup of tea and a chat. Sometimes, just talking helps.”
Backing from Thanet Community Safety Unit
Inspector Ian Swallow praised Adrian’s dedication:
“He uses his personal military experience to connect with veterans in need, providing a trusted ear and practical support.”
“Whether it’s reporting a crime or linking veterans to partner agencies, PCSO Butterworth is a vital lifeline.”
Adrian received his well-earned award at the Kent and Medway Civilian Military Partnership Conference on June 7, presented by Lady Colgrain, Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Kent.
