Essex Police are locked in a tense standoff with two people still perched high above the QEII Bridge. Officers, working with partners, aim to bring the daring duo down safely before arresting them on suspicion of conspiracy to cause a public nuisance.
Specialist platform deployed to rescue protesters

Chief Superintendent speaks out
“We are working as quickly and as safely as possible to resolve this situation,” said Chief Superintendent Simon Anslow. “The two people who remain at height on the bridge have put themselves in considerable danger and as a result, we and our emergency services face a considerable challenge. Our priority is keeping Essex moving while safeguarding the individuals involved and those working to get them down safely. This specialist equipment gives us the edge to do that. I understand the frustration this causes, but we are pushing to end this as fast and safely as we can. We fully support the right to protest, which we always facilitate safely. But endangering lives and selfishly halting traffic is unacceptable. The public expects action, and we will deliver.”
Bridge remains closed but traffic keeps flowing
