Police Warn About Online Dangers for Kids

“In a world where social media dominates young people’s lives, it’s crucial we act on any suspicion of criminal behaviour online,” said DC Angela Smith-Jones from HIOWC’s Internet Child Abuse Team.

“Despite knowing the girl was underage, Cavie pressed on sending sexual content. Our teams are committed to keeping children across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight safe from predators.”

Detective Constable Colin Haynes of SEROCU added: “No real children were endangered in this case, but Cavie committed a serious offence believing he was communicating with a minor. SEROCU works closely with regional police to disrupt offenders and protect children from harm.”

Stay Alert: Protect Your Kids Online

If you have concerns about a child’s behaviour offline or online, talk to professionals who can help. Remind children that online “friends” may not be who they seem. Review parental controls and privacy settings on devices, apps, and social media to keep youngsters safe.
