Shot Child Killer Thomas Cashman Denied Appeal Again
Thomas Cashman, 35, the man who shot and killed nine-year-old Olivia, has failed again in his bid to appeal his sentence. A judge has slammed his request for permission to challenge his jail term.
Judge: Sentence Not Excessive
Dame Victoria Sharp delivered the brutal verdict, making clear the seriousness of Cashman’s crime. She tore apart claims that his sentence was too harsh, saying, “It cannot be sensibly argued that the overall sentencing imposed was excessive, let alone manifestly excessive.”
This marks the second time Cashman’s desperate attempt to reduce his minimum jail term has been crushed. His earlier appeal in July 2023 was rejected outright without even a hearing.
Tragic Shooting Caught in Gang Violence
- Cashman was chasing convicted drug dealer Joseph Nee.
- Nee fled into Olivia’s home for safety.
- Cashman opened fire, missing his target but fatally wounding Olivia, who was standing behind her mum Cheryl Korbel.
Family Fights for Justice and Law Change
Olivia’s mother, Cheryl Korbel, is demanding tougher laws to make offenders like Cashman attend sentencing hearings. Cashman coldly refused to approach the dock during his trial, sparking outrage.
In May, Solicitor General Michael Tomlinson KC confirmed Cashman’s jail term would not be increased despite public fury. Attempts to extend his prison time under the ‘unduly lenient sentence’ scheme were also rejected.
Dame Victoria Sharp ended the hearing by highlighting the severity of Cashman’s punishment. He won’t even be considered for release until well into his seventies.
