Violent Crawley Man Jailed for Assaulting Police Officers
A 25-year-old man from Crawley has been locked up after violently attacking police officers over several months. Michael Sardes, of Tilgate Way, was handed a 32-week prison sentence on 26 July 2023 for multiple assaults on emergency workers.
Spitting, Biting and Violence Against Emergency Staff
Sardes’ reign of terror lasted from June 2022 to March 2023. His charges included four counts of assaulting an emergency worker and one common assault.
The situation blew up on 30 November when officers were called to a disturbance at Sardes’ home. As they tried to arrest him for a potential breach of the peace, he spat at one officer and bit another at the custody centre.
Guilty Plea and Compensation Ordered
Sardes appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on 1 December. He pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting an emergency worker, harassment, and criminal damage. Alongside his jail time, he was ordered to pay £130 compensation.
“Michael Sardes made the conscious decision to use violence against emergency workers, and now must face the consequences,” said Investigating Officer Tom Webb.
“The sentence imposed by the court reflects that the use of his behaviour against police, paramedics and other emergency workers must not, and will not be accepted.”
