A woman in her 60s remains in a critical condition following a savage assault in Newcastle. Northumbria Police have swooped, arresting eight suspects linked to the horrifying attack.

- Five men aged 20s to 40s held for attempted murder
- One man in his 50s arrested for conspiracy to murder
- Two men, aged 40 and 60, charged with assisting an offender
Police say the victim is still in hospital fighting for her life, as detectives dig deeper into the chilling incident.
Police Plead for Witnesses to Step Up
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Atherton, leading the probe, said: “Eight suspects are in custody and being questioned. We’ve already carried out extensive enquiries, but we need the public’s help.”
He urged anyone who spotted a Renault Twingo on that night to come forward immediately. “Any tiny detail could be the key to cracking this case.”
A police cordon remains firmly in place as officers comb the scene. DCI Atherton warned against rumours: “This is an ongoing investigation. Please avoid speculation online or in the community.”
