An inquest has exposed that Lucy Harrison, a 23-year-old fashion buyer from Cheshire, was fatally shot by her own father in a Texas bedroom last year. Questions are swirling over his firearm training and whether he even knew the gun was loaded.
Tragic Shooting in Texas Holiday Home
Lucy was visiting her boyfriend in Prosper, Texas, on 10 January 2023, when disaster struck. Her father, Kris Harrison – known to struggle with alcoholism – shot her at medium range inside a bedroom with no one else present.
For the first time on Tuesday, Cheshire Coroner’s Court confirmed Kris pulled the trigger that killed his daughter. The inquest will now probe how this tragedy unfolded, focusing on whether Kris knew the gun was loaded and whether he had sufficient firearms training.
Legal Drama as Lawyers Fail to Oust Coroner
Kris Harrison’s legal team previously tried and failed to have the coroner removed, claiming bias. Their attempt was rejected, keeping the investigation firmly in motion.
Grand Jury Clears Father of Charges
Despite the grim ruling, a Texas grand jury decided on 10 June 2023 not to indict anyone in connection with Lucy’s death. The police ruled she died from a gunshot wound “inflicted by another person,” but authorities opted against prosecution.
The ongoing inquest will now dissect medical evidence and examine the reasons behind the grand jury’s decision, aiming to uncover the truth about the fatal shooting.
Family Pays Heartbreaking Tribute
“Lucy was life. She lived it fiercely and fearlessly, not afraid to feel all that life has to offer,” said a tribute from her mother and boyfriend.
They described Lucy as a complex soul who loved both exploring new cultures and cosy nights at home. “She was truly thriving in life, and although this gives us great comfort, we are utterly heartbroken at the loss of our beautiful, gorgeous Luce.”
The inquest continues as investigators piece together the full story behind the shocking death of a young British woman on holiday in the US.
