Colan Entwistle, 38, from Great Arbor Way, Middleton, has been locked up for 12-and-a-half years following a savage attack. On Wednesday 25 February 2026, at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court, he was sentenced to 8.5 years behind bars, plus 4 years on licence.

Victim Left Fighting for Life

The victim suffered a serious wound to his back, causing a collapsed lung and a punctured diaphragm. Multiple surgeries and a lengthy hospital stay were needed to save him.

CCTV footage revealed the chilling premeditation: Entwistle was seen lurking near the victim’s home, rehearsing swings with his weapon before launching the vicious assault and chasing the victim after the first strike.

No Remorse or Explanation

Entwistle was arrested later that evening at an Oldham address. He refused to answer police questions, offering no alibi or hint of remorse.

While in custody, he tried to pressure a witness via letters to pull out of the investigation. Further evidence showed he also attempted to interfere with justice by influencing others.

Detective’s Scathing Statement

“This was a calculated and vicious attack that could have easily resulted in a fatality. The level of planning, the nature of the threats, and the choice of weapon all point to a clear intent to cause serious harm. Thanks to the bravery of the victim and the swift response of emergency services, the victim survived and Entwistle was quickly apprehended.” – Detective Constable Russ Clarke, Rochdale CID

“The victim continues to recover both physically and psychologically. Entwistle showed a complete disregard for human life, fueled by alcohol and jealousy.”

“Entwistle hoped he could dodge justice and tried to meddle with witnesses. It was only after overwhelming evidence surfaced that he admitted guilt.”

Greater Manchester Police vow to continue cracking down on violent crime and bringing offenders to book.
