A man sparked chaos after climbing a railway bridge and pelting police with bricks for over an hour. The drama unfolded after he tried to flee the scene of a car crash near Shortlands Tavern.
Crash Near Shortlands Tavern Triggers Police Chase
It all kicked off around 9:30pm on Tuesday when the man crashed his severely damaged car close to the Shortlands Tavern, just by Shortlands Station. Officers gave chase on foot, but the suspect made a desperate dash up onto the railway bridge to evade arrest.
Train Chaos as Power Cut During Police Drama
South Eastern trains ground to a halt between Victoria and bromley/" title="Bromley" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Bromley South while emergency crews switched off power to the bridge to safely deal with the standoff. The disruption caused headaches for commuters, including parents with babies and business travellers.
A police helicopter was scrambled to track the suspect from above, helping officers lock down his location before he was finally hauled into custody.
