From Friday, Brits should gear up for “wintry hazards” with snow expected on high ground and even lower hills in some areas.
Jason Kelly, Met Office Chief Operational Meteorologist: “A shift to north-westerly winds will make Friday much colder across the UK — expect sunny spells mixed with heavy showers, coastal gales, and snow over high ground. There’s also a chance of snow settling on lower hills. Keep updated as the week goes on.”
Weather Outlook: Gales, Rain and Plummeting Temps
- Tuesday: Cloudy with increasing winds. Rain moves in from the west by evening, heavy in places with strong gales in the far north-west.
- Wednesday: Cooler with brighter spells in the south-east, blustery showers in Scotland’s west, and easing winds.
- Thursday: Sharp winds and heavy showers, especially in the north-west. Bright spells in the southern and eastern regions.
- Friday to Saturday: Wintry showers with freezing dips overnight. Winds could hit 40-60mph, worst in the north-west. Weather to calm down by Sunday as high pressure returns.
Storm Goretti Reminder
Earlier this year, Storm Goretti slammed the UK with 99mph winds and heavy snow, cutting power to nearly 70,000 homes. The south-west took a battering with furious gales and torrential rain, while the Midlands saw significant snow.
