Amelia, the eight-year-old girl who captured hearts worldwide by receiving over 250,000 birthday cards, has passed away, her family confirmed.
From Hope to Heartbreak
Amelia had set an ambitious goal to receive 80,000 birthday cards — a target she smashed by a huge margin, sparking a global outpouring of love and support.
But on Tuesday, 17 March, her mother, Katarzyna Bartczak, shared the devastating news on Facebook.
“I’m writing this with a pain that words cannot describe,” she said. “Today at 5:00pm, our beloved Amelia passed away. She has put on her angel wings.”
“She is no longer suffering. She is no longer in pain. She is in a place where everything is beautiful, peaceful, and full of light.”
‘Strength Beyond Imagination’
Amelia battled illness for nearly six years but showed incredible courage every single day.
“Every single day, she showed us what true courage looks like,” her mother revealed.
“She showed the whole world that even the smallest heart can hold the greatest power, and that love – pure, unconditional love – truly overcomes everything.”
Katarzyna called Amelia “our greatest miracle, our heart, our light,” and thanked her for “every moment, every smile, every glance.”
“This is not goodbye – it’s ‘see you again’, our little angel,” she added.
Tributes Flood In
Social media is awash with tributes as thousands remember Amelia’s inspiring story and the joy her birthday card campaign brought to so many.
