This Good Friday, Asda is giving away free loose carrots across 581 stores to fans of a quirky new UK Easter tradition: leaving a carrot out for the Easter Bunny on “Easter Eve.”
Nearly Half of Brits Embrace Easter Eve Carrot Ritual
Research shows a growing number of Brits are getting in on the act. A whopping 44.9% of UK households say they have left a carrot out for the Easter Bunny. Even better, the tradition has surged by 10.1% in just two years.
Younger folk are leading the charge, with 22% of 18–29-year-olds joining in last year. And it’s not just a fad — 58% have kept this ritual alive for at least five years.
Adding charm to the custom, many families stage evidence of the Bunny’s visit. About 12% confess to nibbling the carrot themselves to mimic bunny teeth marks, while 10% scatter carrot crumbs for added effect.
Asda’s ‘Easter Bunny Carrots’ and In-Store Fun
Diving headfirst into the fun, Asda has rebranded packs of carrots as ‘Easter Bunny Carrots’, alongside other Veggie Easter-themed produce like parsnips and potatoes. Selected items are on rollback deals: 30p each or 5 for £1 from 31st March to 6th April.
On Friday, 3rd April, kids and families can pick up a free loose carrot — while stocks last — to get ready for their Easter Eve celebrations. Plus, Asda is running a free in-store Easter Bunny hunt to entertain the little ones during the shop.
An Asda spokesperson said: “The new-age tradition of leaving a carrot out for the Easter Bunny offers a simple, accessible way for families to build anticipation for a special Easter Sunday. And, unlike reindeer, rabbits genuinely love carrots, making the tradition surprisingly logical!”
