Police were called to Red Lion Place at 8.50am today (April 1) after reports of a man armed with a knife. Emergency services found a seriously injured woman in her 80s at the scene.
She was rushed to the hospital but sadly died from her injuries. Another man was threatened with the knife but escaped unharmed.
Suspect in His 60s Arrested for Murder
At 9.10am, a man in his 60s walked into a nearby police station and was arrested on suspicion of murder. Officers took him to hospital, where he is receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police believe the suspect and victim knew each other. No other suspects are being sought.
Police Reassure Public, Support Victim’s Family
Detective Inspector Dean Grice, leading the Met’s investigation, said: “This is a deeply tragic incident. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family during this difficult time.”
He added that officers and paramedics worked quickly at the scene, and a thorough investigation is underway. Specialist officers continue to support the family.
Detective Superintendent James Derham reassured the community: “We believe this was an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public. You will see increased police presence in the area.”
