Mental Health History and Violent Past Revealed
A 31-year-old woman, shot dead by police during a foiled kidnapping at an Omaha Walmart, had a violent history and was under court-ordered mental health supervision. Noemi Guzman was named by Omaha Police as the woman involved. She had previously faced serious criminal accusations but was found “not responsible by reason of insanity” in multiple violent cases.
Past Crimes Spotlighted
- In March 2024, Guzman allegedly set her father’s house on fire.
- She was also charged with breaking into St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church armed with a kitchen knife.
- During that church incident, a priest had to barricade himself in a room as Guzman caused damage.
Despite four felony charges, the courts ruled Guzman mentally ill and not responsible for these acts due to insanity.
Ongoing Court Supervision for Schizophrenia
In June 2025, a judge confirmed Guzman continued to suffer from schizophrenia. She was deemed a danger to herself and others and placed under strict court supervision with a mental health treatment plan. The court ordered a psychiatrist to alert authorities immediately if Guzman failed to comply with her treatment. Up until Tuesday’s Walmart incident, no records indicated she had deviated from her plan.
