A 37-year-old Southampton man, Richard Minchington, has been sentenced to eight-and-a-half years at Southampton Crown Court after a major cocaine haul was uncovered. The South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU) found a total of 12 kilograms of cocaine linked to Minchington following a vehicle stop on the M3 and a search of a storage container in Southampton.

Massive Cocaine Find

Police discovered 1kg of cocaine in a vehicle stopped on the M3 motorway. Further investigation led to Minchington’s vehicle being stopped and searched, which resulted in officers locating a storage container housing an additional 11kg of cocaine along with drug production equipment.

Drug Supply Evidence

Inside the container, officers found a 20-tonne hydraulic press, multiple electronic scales, vacuum packaging materials, utensils coated with white powder, and large tubs of mixing agents. These items pointed to large-scale Class A drug supply operations.

Serious Legal Consequences

Minchington pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs. His sentencing follows his guilty plea at a prior court hearing in January 2026.

Police Crackdown Continues

Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Daniel McCarthy of SEROCU said: “This sentencing marks another significant step in dismantling a dangerous organised crime group. Minchington was actively engaged in facilitating the supply of Class A drugs, which devastate lives and communities. We will continue to pursue those who think they can profit from the misery of others. Our message remains clear – if you are involved in drug supply, expect to be caught and to face lengthy prison sentences.”

Get Involved

The police urge the public to report any suspected drug dealing through the 24-hour police non-emergency number 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
