Three Afghan nationals stand accused at Bristol Crown Court of gang-raping a 17-year-old girl before fleeing the UK in the back of a lorry. Mehrab Safi, 21, Awal Ahmadzai, 19, Salman Habibkheil, 19, and an unnamed 16-year-old boy are on trial charged with rape, human trafficking and assault by penetration. Police say the incident occurred after the defendants allegedly groomed the victim, took her to a house in St Werburghs, and supplied her with alcohol.
Alleged Grooming And Assault
The prosecution claims the defendants convinced the teenager to attend the St Werburghs property in the early hours, where they sexually assaulted her.
Authorities state the girl was intoxicated during the incident.
Escape During Police Arrival
As police responded to the scene, the three adult men reportedly fled, travelling first to Birmingham and then London before leaving the UK across the Channel.
Apprehended In Calais
All four defendants were arrested in Calais shortly after their escape and were subsequently returned to the UK to face charges.
Denials And Ongoing Trial
Each defendant denies all charges of rape, human trafficking, and assault by penetration.
The trial at Bristol Crown Court is ongoing.
