A man has been charged after a stabbing in Littlehampton left a 32-year-old man in hospital, as police continue to appeal for witnesses to come forward. Sussex Police were called to High Street at around 9.50pm on Saturday 18 July following reports that a woman had been assaulted. Officers say the suspect then made his way towards Howard Road, where a 32-year-old man was allegedly attacked.
Victim taken to hospital
The man suffered injuries consistent with a stabbing and was taken to hospital for treatment. Police quickly attended the scene and arrested a suspect shortly afterwards.
Multiple charges
Lewis Oliver, 24, of Greenfields, Wick, Littlehampton, has been charged with:
- Wounding with intent
- Assault by beating
- Threatening a person with a blade or sharply pointed article in a public place
- Engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate or family relationship
- Criminal damage
Oliver appeared before Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Monday 20 July, where he was remanded into custody. He is next due to appear at Portsmouth Crown Court on 17 August.
Investigation continues
Although charges have now been brought, Sussex Police say enquiries remain ongoing and officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Detectives are appealing to anyone who witnessed what happened, or who has CCTV, doorbell, dashcam or mobile phone footage, to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to report it online or call 101, quoting serial 1588 of 18/07. As criminal proceedings are now active, Lewis Oliver is entitled to a fair trial.
