A woman in her 20s has died after a car collided with a stationary street-cleaning vehicle in Epsom, Surrey. Emergency services were called to Christ Church Road shortly before 11.40pm on Wednesday, August 5, following a collision involving a black Smart car and a stationary street-cleaning vehicle. The woman, who was travelling as a passenger in the Smart car, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed.
Driver arrested after fatal collision
The driver of the Smart car, a man in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, driving while over the prescribed limit, failing to provide a specimen for analysis and causing death by driving while uninsured. He was subsequently taken to hospital for medical treatment. Surrey Police closed Christ Church Road overnight while collision investigators examined the scene. The road reopened shortly after 9.45am on Thursday. Officers have now launched an appeal for witnesses and are particularly interested in establishing how the black Smart car was being driven immediately before the collision. A Surrey Police spokesperson said:
“We are asking anyone who may have witnessed this collision, or who may have CCTV, dashcam, or helmet cam footage that may have captured all or part of this incident, to get in touch. “We are particularly interested in the manner of driving of the black Smart car in the moments leading up to the collision.”
