Tragic Hit-and-Run on Winston Churchill Avenue

A 55-year-old woman from Southsea was killed in a shocking hit-and-run last night (3 August) on Winston Churchill Avenue.

Police were called at 9.32pm after reports of a collision involving a blue Vauxhall Corsa and the pedestrian. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Suspects Arrested After Fleeing Scene

The car fled but was found nearby. Two suspects from Cosham were arrested:

  • A 32-year-old man – charged with dangerous driving, driving under the influence, causing injury by dangerous driving, plus two counts of drug driving.
  • A 36-year-old woman – charged with dangerous driving, causing death by dangerous driving, and driving over the alcohol limit.

Both remain in police custody.

Road Closed, Now Reopened – Police Seek Witnesses

Winston Churchill Avenue was shut down between Victoria Road North and Isambard Brunel Road to clear the scene but has now reopened.
